About Windham, NH
History
Windham, NH is a town in Rockingham County, NH, located in the southeastern part of the state. The first settlers arrived in Windham in 1719, and the town was officially incorporated in 1722. The town’s name was derived from the city of Windham in England.
Windham was first known as “Nutfield,” which also encompassed the towns of Derry and Londonderry. By the year 1741, settlers had petitioned for a charter to form a separate community whose bounds included 27.2 square miles of land and water. In 1741 the Town of Windham was established.
For those interested in history, the Windham Historical Society operates the Windham History Museum, which is located in an 18th-century house. The museum features exhibits on the history of Windham and the surrounding area.

Windham is bordered by the towns of Derry to the north, Salem to the east, Hudson to the south, and Londonderry to the west. Windham has a total area of 27.7 square miles, of which 27.6 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles is water, making it the second-smallest town in Rockingham County. The town is about 30 miles from Manchester, NH, and about 60 miles from Boston, MA.
