About Killington, VT

History

Killington was first chartered as Killington Peak in 1761 by Benning Wentworth, the colonial governor of New Hampshire. The town was named after Matthew Killington, an original landholder and surveyor of Killington Peak. It was later incorporated in 1761.

The town has historically been a popular tourist destination, especially for skiing and snowboarding. Killington Ski Resort is the largest ski resort in New England, and Killington is home to several other smaller ski areas as well.
